Sick days

The Sick Pay Act of 1976 stipulates that every employee in Israel is entitled to one and a half days of sick pay for every full month of work with the same employer. The rate of payment for sick days is the minimum stipulated in protective labor laws, collective agreements, and/or extension orders according to the employment sector and individual employment contract. The employer may add to this, but may not detract from the said minimum. During one work year, the employee is entitled to 18 sick days, and it is not possible to accumulate more than 90 sick days, deducting the period for which the employee received sick pay. Furthermore, an employee who is absent from work due to illness is not entitled to receive sick pay from the first day of illness, but only starting from the second day of their illness, whereby: on the second and third day of their illness, they will receive half of the amount, whereas starting from the fourth day, the employee will receive full payment for every sick day from that day onwards.
